Frequently Asked Questions
how long does it take to build a
software application?
The time it takes to build an application of course depends on
the application itself; some may take a number of months. As a
general guide we tend to say that a typical business application
will take around 3 months to build - that is the time from the
first design meeting through to delivery. However, we will of
course provide you with a more detailed answer to this question
when we know your requirements.
how much support do you provide for your
applications?
All of our applications include 90 days support as standard with
the option to increase this further. The reason for the 90 days is
that it allows you enough time to use the application to ensure
that it is working as you want it to, after that you can purchase a
support pack that will provide you support on a monthly basis.
can you amend existing applications or
do we have to start again?
In some cases it may be possible to amend your existing
application, but there are technical reasons why this may not be
possible - this is something that we can discuss. The other
decision that will need to be made is whether it is cost effective
to amend the existing application, often it can work out more
expensive to pursue that option over building a new
application.
do your applications run on windows or
the mac?
This really depends on the application that has been written. A
Windows application will of course only run on a Windows machine,
however a web based or Flash application will run on both. If you a
specific reason for the application running on a particular
operating system we can talk through the options open to you.
i am a bit reluctant to talk to a
developer about my application at this stage in case they steal the
ideas, is there a way around this?
We hear this a fair bit! We would suggest that you ask us to
sign a non-disclosure document to provide you extra piece of mind.
We can of course by trusted to keep your ideas secret, but the NDA
is a good option. Additionally, we would recommend that you consult
a solicitor for legal advice if you have additional concerns.
Do you have commercial insurance?
Symtex have £5 Million Public Liability, Professional Indemnity
and Employers Liability underwritten by Brit Insurance PLC
How can we be confident your processing our data?
We are members of the 'Register of Data Controllers' scheme
managed by the Information Commissioners Office (ICO). If your not
sure what this means or is relevant to your requirements and and
industry compliance or regulatory bodies your working with please
just ask.
Who owns the Intellectual Property Rights for developed
software?
Customers are granted a license which allows unlimited usage
whilst the IPR vests with Symtex. We want you to come back to us
for support and maintainance of your software product but should
you wish to purchase the object code and IPR arising from your
works we're happy to discuss arrangement.
I'm starting a new business, what funding options are
available?
We can put you in touch and direct you towards grant awarding
bodies and brokers that may be able to help. Most often a good
starting point is your local Business Link centre.
